Center Nick Mangold and left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson were named to the NFL All-Rookie team today. I'm not a big fan of off-season awards, but it is nice to see these two first rounders get some recognition. Both guys came in as rookies and instantly stabilized a line that had a question mark at QB and problems at the running back position. While the Jets still lacked the go-to guy in the backfield in 2006, Mangold and Ferguson helped the three-man running back attack of Barlow, Washington and Houston rack up 1394 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns. They also solidified the passing game and allowed Chad Pennington to start all 16 regular season games for the first time in his career.
Also in the good news department: offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer withdrew his name from the Miami Dolphins head coaching position and will remain with the team. Schottenheimer had a solid first season with the Jets. He employed a ton of shifting, formations and packages and really got the most out of this offense.
I thought since the Jets season is over we wouldn't have to hear any more nonsense about them. I guess I was wrong. Just kidding Mike. I should start a blog on da Raiders. What is Al doing?
Now all they need is a QB that throws like a boy and a real NFL running back. God, I hate football.
