The feud rages on, subtly.
In today’s New York Times, New England head coach Bill Belichick continued his passive-aggressive assault on New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini. The article includes some possible theories for the ill will, but I think it misses the real one.
Belichick hates the Jets.
What other reason could there possibly be? Belichick is still on friendly terms with the now ex-Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban, even though he was also a divisional rival. Bill Parcells hasn’t earned the contempt of Belichick, even though it was Belichick who left the Jets (and then GM Parcells) in the lurch after accepting and then relinquishing the position of HC of the NYJ after the 1999 season.
I guess the real question then is -- why? Why waste your hate for a franchise that has been mediocre, at best?
Who knows?
