Now that's more like it.
The New York Jets added another defensive end today, one who actually played football last year, by signing free-agent David Bowens to a three-year deal.
It seems the Jets are trying to mirror what the Patriots have done on defense over the years -- stockpile bodies. It's conceivable that the Jets could have a different front seven on every single down. That can be a good thing (if those guys can get the job done, of course). It keeps everyone fresh and can confuse an offense.
Bowens was probably the best available defensive lineman in this year's free agent pool. I'm actually a bit surprised that the Jets were able to sign him. Bowens isn't a sack-master by any means, but he can get after the quarterback and that's what the team needs. He's another 'tweener guy (6'3, 265) and will probably play the outside linebacker position in the Jets D.
Did I mention that Bowens also played football last season?
You can't beat that.
