Wang Will Start 2007 on DL

I guess it was serious.

It started out as "discomfort" in Chien-Ming Wang's right hamstring.  Cramps?  Joe Torre didn't seem too concerned:

"I've had no emergency calls," Torre stated.

Hours later it was revealed that  Wang suffered a strain of his right hamstring  and will probably spend the first month of the season on the disabled list.  Jeff Karstens will most likely take Wang's spot in the rotation.

Injuries happen, it's part of the game, and I'd rather suffer through them at the beginning of the season rather than in the middle or end of the year.  But, the Yankees' rotation was on shaky ground to begin with.  With Wang out and Pettitte suffering from back spasms that leaves the Yanks with only one healthy proven commodity in Mike Mussina.

Not a good way to begin the season.

Last season, Melky Cabrera emerged when Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui went down with injuries.  Wang's injury isn't as serious as those were, but maybe this is an opportunity for Karstens to open everyone's eyes.  Or maybe Carl Pavano will answer the bell and pick up the slack.  Can Kei Igawa prove he was worth the $46 million?

Let's see.
