Yankees Batter Tribe

Chase Wright was called up from Trenton, but it was the Bombers who brought the Thunder.

The Yankees belted three homers in the second inning and Chase Wright was good enough as the Yanks defeated the Cleveland Indians 10-3 on a raw, windy night in the Bronx.

The Good:

Chase Wright.  Wright gave up a first inning run without giving up a hit and seemed headed toward disaster.  His control was shaky, but he was able to battle through it against a potent Indian lineup.  You could almost see the weight of the world lift off his shoulders once the Yanks broke through with six runs in the second.  His final line: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 3 K.  Good job, rook.

The bullpen.  The pen once again flexed its muscles and combined to no-hit Cleveland over the final four innings.  Mike Myers looked especially good as he struck out two over his 1 2/3 innings of work.

Alex Rodriguez.  A-Rod tied the score at 1-1 with an RBI single in the first inning and then helped put the tribe away with a two-run bomb in the second.  Rodriguez has hit safely in all twelve games this season.

Jorge Posada.  Posada helped Wright keep his composure on the mound and added a little something with his bat.  Posada hit a sac fly in the first to give the Yanks an early 2-1 lead and then knocked Indians starter Jake Westbrook from the game with a two-run shot in the second.

The Bad:

Nothing extremely negative to report, but Melky continues to struggle at the plate.  He went 0-4 and is now batting .174.

The Ugly:

The crowd.  The attendance was announced at 38,438, but that's a filthy lie.  I don't blame the fans for not making the trip, but it was odd to see Yankee Stadium half empty.  It reminded me of the bad, old days when 18,000 people in the seats on a weekday was considered normal.  Michael Kay actually stated as much on the MY9 broadcast and as much as I hate to admit it -- he was right.

Wednesday night's matchup will feature two lefties on the mound -- Kei Igawa against Jeremy Sowers.

Will it be the Igawa from his start in Oakland (good) or the Igawa from his start against Baltimore (bad)?

I know which one I'm hoping for.
