Pettitte's Effort is Wasted in Seattle

I have to believe that the Yankees will eventually piece together solid pitching with timely hitting.

Because this is becoming extremely frustrating to watch right now.

The Yanks wasted a solid performance from Andy Pettitte en route to a 2-1 loss Sunday against the Mariners.  The Bombers dropped two of three in Seattle this weekend and find themselves two games below .500 on the season and 8 games behind the Red Sox who won in unbelievable fashion on Sunday.

The Good:

Andy Pettitte.  Pettitte was outstanding, but took the loss.  He must be wondering if he's still in Houston with the run support he's receiving.  So far, Pettitte is proving that his return was well worth the $16 million even though the offense isn't showing it.  Pettitte's totals: 7.1 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K.  He really should be better than 2-2 at this point.

Hideki Matsui.  Matsui banged out two more hits and is looking more comfortable at the plate.  His double with one out in the ninth gave the Yanks hope, but Posada and Mientkiewicz couldn't bring him home.

The Bad:

The punch-less Yankee offense.  The Yankees were only able to scratch out 7 hits against the Mariners on Sunday.  Sometimes the opponent just shuts you down, but this offense shouldn't be shut down twice in three days against the Mariners.  Two Yanks in particular have to step it up: Bobby Abreu and Robinson Cano.  Neither one should be hovering around the .230 mark for the season.

The Ugly:

Mike Hargrove's grey goatee.  I don't know what possesses a man to grow a beard when it's full of white whiskers.  I could see if he had one for 20 years or something, but Hargrove was clean and smooth when he was managing the Indians and the Orioles.  Someone should tell him to invest in some Just for Men or advise him to shave it off.  I know he's a manager and a former ball player, but he won't get any play with Mr. Grey.

Monday is an off day as the Yanks travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox.  Mike Mussina will oppose lefty John Danks on Tuesday night.

Maybe the off day will help the Yanks put everything together.
