The action has been fast and furious and there have been numerous twists and turns.
No, I'm not talking about the NFL Playoffs, but about the Jets search for a new head coach.
There's been a lot of speculation and talk about who will take the con for the Green and White in 2009 and so far it's been all sizzle and no steak. Tear the pages off the calendar and you'll discover a new front-runner.

Bill Cowher. Brian Schottenheimer. Steve Spagnuolo.
I'm still waiting to read my name in the paper.
Well, the newest leading man seems to be
Rex Ryan. The defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens met with the Jets brass on Sunday and both sides were reportedly impressed.
According to a source (who are you?), Ryan was "impressed that the owner flew down to meet with him. The Jets were very
serious. I can tell you that Rex is leaning toward the Jets and the
Jets are leaning toward Rex.
"In fact, the Jets told Rex that they're prepared to wait until after the Super Bowl to hire him if they have to."
Ryan also interviewed with the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
I'm a bit surprised at the Jets' direction in their search for a new head coach. Usually, a team will take an opposite approach once they fire a guy. Let's say your former coach was a young, inexperienced, but talented fella. The organization will usually (usually) follow with an older, seasoned and, hopefully, fairly successful candidate.
That doesn't seem to be the case here. Actually, Gang Green's past three head coaches were all newcomers (Al Groh, Herman Edwards and Eric Mangini).
Here is the list of the candidates the Jets have reportedly brought in for an interview.
- Schottenheimer
- Bill Callahan
- Spagnuolo
- Ryan
- Jim Harbaugh (Stanford head coach)
- Jeff Jagodzinski
- Russ Grimm
- Ron Meeks (Colts defensive coordinator)
Only Callahan has any NFL head coaching experience. And that ended in disaster with the Oakland Raiders. And I wouldn't give him the Jets whistle for the upcoming season or any other season for that matter.
Bill Cowher and Mike Shanahan were the two prized choices, but their names have reportedly been removed from consideration.
Seems like the Jets are committed to giving the keys to another inexperienced coach.
I'd like to remind the Jets that I'm familiar with their organization and have led several Jets teams to a championship over the years in
Madden.
I'll be waiting for a call.
